Questions from the build table
The questions parents, teachers and young builders ask us most, grouped by where they come up.
Before you buy
Which kit should a first-time builder start with?
For ages eight to ten, a four-model solar box or the wooden FM radio. For ten and up, the twin-driver speaker. For five to seven, the pixel-art board.
Are the kits good gifts?
Yes. All kits ship in printed gift boxes, and the two-project sets are popular birthday and holiday presents.
At the table
What tools do I need?
Usually just a small Phillips screwdriver, which some kits include. No soldering iron, glue gun or pliers.
Can two children share one kit?
The multi-model solar boxes split easily. The speaker and radio kits are best built by one child with a helper.
After the build
How loud are the speakers?
Loud enough for a bedroom, desk or small party. Volume is controlled from the connected phone.
Can a finished model be taken apart?
Many solar models can be rebuilt, but plywood tabs wear with repeated use, so treat a rebuild as a one-off.
Orders and help
Where is my order?
Delivery is handled by the partner store where you ordered. Your order page there shows tracking.
A part is missing. What now?
Check the troubleshooting table on our help page, then write to us with the kit name and the missing part.
